Best Beef Wellington in London?
Hubby and I will be in London in the fall. He's looking for a restaurant with really good Beef Wellington ........ don't ask why, it's just his dream! (LOL). Seriously, any recommendations on good restaurants that we might check out? Thanks in advance.

Rules restaurant in Covent Garden is pretty good. It is the oldest restaurant in London and has quite a lot of style, I was there for lunch a week ago and they had wellington available but that may change by your arrival.

Don't know if they do beef wellington specifically, but for a real old fashioned English restuarant go to Rules near Covent Garden - oldest restaurant in London. It was established in established in 1798!
Beware, it's not cheap.
Enjoy.

Looks like Stempler and I had the same thought at the same time.

Stempler & Cheshire Cat: Thanks for the recommendation. Must be pretty good if you both recommended. Will definitely check it out.

Thanks for the link. Checked out the restaurant, and it looks awesome. Even if they don't have the Wellington, think we may try it out.

Ok I tried to do my homework before asking. First it was a relief that someone else had "the dream". and my wife also thinks this is a stupid question...Then I gave her the "there are only unanswered questions"...balh blah blah...
Has anything changed in the last 4 years. You would just have to think that Beef wellington = London. Any updated suggestions. And can we try to keep this under 40 GBP per person.
I also looked at the some of the other search results and nothing "popped" forme. we are also willing to get on the tube and take a short trip just for something to do.
Thanks,
Jeff

I still recommend Rules. It is awesome. You should check out Porters (Henrietta Street) too. It's a bit less expensive and is another that serves great classic English food.
Have fun.

I also recommend Rules but as an alternative, Simpsons in the Strand just around the corner offers Beef Wellington for £28.00 with baby vegetables thrown in.
For a starter, I could suggest Fried Trotter (pig's foot) with soft boiled quail's egg, caper and gherkin or the smoked eel and bacon salad. MmMmmmm!

Ah, my favorite recipe! I cook it myself at Christmas as I don't like turkey. I follow Gordon Ramsey's recipe from one of his books, it's always spectacular.
I would go with DiCanio's suggestion, Simpsons are well known for cooking a really good beef joint. I doubt they would do a bad beef Wellington.
(And well done on doing your homework, that was one well found old thread!)
